Vote For My WebTV Show Co-Host
We are putting the final touches, set, equipment and segments together for my new webtv show, however I decided recently that we need to add one more thing- I don’t want to talk to and with myself, therefore I decided to bring on a co-host. I would greatly appreciate your help by going to the link below, it will take you to my Facebook page where you can view each one minute video and then choose one to vote for. You can only vote one time and for one video and remember if you don’t vote then you can’t complain (hehee).
On another note- what about you? What are you doing in 2012 with video, digital or mobile marketing? I would love to hear.
More to come from me, I am diving into as much as I can so that I can share only the best business and relationship building sites, technologies and tips with YOU!
Thank you for stopping by,

Getting Your Biz Ready for 2012
It is that time of year again, a time to look at what you have accomplished this year and what you need to set in place to grow your business next year. I call this the year end check system- Failure check, success check, change check. Where can I learn from my failures, successes and where can I change?
I have made it a tradition with my business for the past five years at this time to set up all of my marketing and new products so that they can launch for 2012. I spend 1-2 weeks and focus on it every single day until done. I also stay up for 20-24 hours straight on December 31st to get rid of the old and make room for the new. This means- close out client relationships or projects that just aren’t working, or set up better organizational systems and get rid of programs that are not benefiting my company etc… Basically, I clear my space and make necessary changes to my company/brand for the benefit of my clients as well as moi and my family. I love the quote- “the business that doesn’t change…dies”. I believe this to my core and I am constantly looking to change my brand, services, products, business and marketing…as well as my mind set. I have come up with a few tips below as to how you can prepare your business for 2012 and embrace change. Comments welcome.
1) Do a Client/Customer Check- If you are stressed, spending more time on a client or with a customer than you are getting paid for OR the client/customer does not respect your time and or fees then it is time to say goodbye. Trust that you are closing out the good (or not so good) to make room for the great. This is often one of the most difficult things to do, however this can be the most profitable in the long run. I have fired/closed out hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue simply because the client is not a good fit, does not respect my time or is too difficult to deal with. Quality of life is important to me and my family and that always comes first. Do this check now and take action.
2) Incorporate New Technologies- take 1-2 days right now to check out new technologies, software, programs etc… to see where you can simplify systems as well as gain more brand exposure. Check sites such as www.mashable.com, www.techcrunch.com or www.marketingsherpa.com to read about the latest and greatest tech stuff and marketing studies. Of course, don’t forget about StarrHall.com too
3) Create New Products & Services- If you have the same products and offerings that you started with in 2011, then you need to add a new offering, bonus, service/product. People get bored with the same offerings and you can saturate your current reach and list in a matter of weeks. What can you offer that is new, different and can help ease a client or prospect’s pain points? What pain are they in? Ex: need more revenue, an easier way to do something, need to save money etc… If you can cure a pain point with your services/offerings then you are way ahead of the business growth game.
4) Create New Opportunity- The best way to do this is to get exposure for your brand. How? PR!!!!!!!! Create a new media list, new media pitch, reach out to new blogs and connections. Commit to reaching out to at least 50 new people before 2012 starts, make at least 40 of them media contacts. Do this, do it today!
So there you have it- a few tips for you to hit the ground running in 2012. Your success is my commitment and true passion. Please feel free to leave comments, feedback or ask questions. I am here to help and I can only help if you chat/post/talk with me.
To 2012, let’s kick some ass! (yes, I cursed, it had to be done!)

A Few Things You Might Not Know About Twitter
In my latest column with Entrepreneur, I decided to share a few things that you might not know about Twitter whether you are an avid user or not. So here goes, would love your feedback, input and ideas as well.
I like to think of Twitter as a live networking event where you can jump into a conversation at any time. It’s a great tool for communicating information to followers but also for engaging with them. However, I’ve learned that manypeople, even those who are on Twitter frequently, use it only for sharing information — not for starting a two-way dialogue. That’s a lot like walking into an event and shouting at people but not listening to their responses. It just doesn’t work.

A Look Back at 2010
I know, 2010 is not quite over yet, 4 more weeks to go, I figured now is a great time to look back at 2010 and share what I thought I did right and of course what I can improve in/on for 2011. So here goes-
What I Did Right: (At least I think so)
1) Consistently stayed involved online, reached out to new connections and said goodbye to people that did not offer value, laughter, honesty or quality engagement online.
2) Re-branded a company that I launched in 2009- SmartyVA.com is now TheSmartyWay.com, I realized that trying to please or make people honest is like trying to sweep the ocean back with a broom- NOT going to happen. So I turned my company into an online training product company instead of a people management business. So far, it is the best move and decision with my businesses that I have ever made.
3) I experienced living in another country with my family (Costa Rica) for 3 months, this is a blog post in itself. Beautiful, life changing, was able to accomplish the 4 hour work week for at least one week- victory!
4) Grew my companies to higher levels by constantly getting out of my comfort zone and trying new things, yup even things that made my tummy turn like reaching out to celebrities and posting the way I really feel about something or some one online. I even did a few Yelp reviews…it was time.
5) Despite cranky people crossing my path and a few tries with my ideas and or partnerships not working out, I NEVER gave up. Giving up is just not in me. I love the lessons I learned from every situation, I am truly grateful as it opened new doors and made me stronger and even more profitable.
What I Could Have Probably Done Different:
1) Spent an extra day at each of the places I traveled to for speaking engagements to explore and relax.
2) Set higher goals because I hit all of my 2010 goals around June of this year.
3) Spend more time with my friends, followers, fans, clients. Create consistent monthly gatherings whether it be teleseminars, onsite dinners or webinars. I started off the year being consistent, then got so busy with travel, speaking engagements, product development, company stuff that I stopped the consistency. Sorry about that.
4) Read more books, I only read 22 books this year, raise my goal for 2011- 40 books. Some of my favs- Unmarketing by Scott Stratten, Business Stripped Bare by Richard Branson, Me 2.0 by Dan Schawbel, Think Big, Kick Ass by Donald Trump, Secrets of the Social Media Marketing SuperStars by Mitch Meyerson, Crush it by Gary Vaynerchuk and of course the revised version of The Four Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris. Notice a pattern here- they are ALL MALE authors. Not to be rude because they were amazing books and awesome male role models but women- reach out to me and send me your book (or book suggestions), I might be able to do a review on my blog or in one of my columns.
5) Procrastination- There were a few projects that I procrastinated on, looking back now I just should not have taken them on as I was not passionate about them, so my new motto for 2011 is- If it is not fun then don’t do it!
6) DO MORE VIDEO!!!!! I need to carry my flipcam with me EVERY WHERE I GO! GEESHHH Starr!
Overall, I am grateful for all of my clients, my publisher, all of the media that welcomed my ideas and featured me, my family that just loved me and supported me so that I could continue to build an amazing future for us and yet still be in the present moment. I am so grateful for what I do (for my job/career), I look forward to all of the amazing new people that I will meet in 2011 and continue the awesome relationships that I have developed in 2010. I am looking forward to my 61 speaking engagements in 2011, focus on a new TV show, new partnerships, book and media tour. Thank you 2010- Fun 2011, here I come.
Thank you to UPS, Entrepreneur Magazine, Sprint, Payplus, Meeting Planners International, Jafra International, American Marketing Association, ShopModerne.com (my new clothing sponsor- yippeee, now I just need a shoe partner- now THAT would make my 2011), Fox Business, AOL Business, MSN News, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Harpo Productions, CR Luxury, Tanya Payne, Jere Calmes, Giles Fabris, Gary Vaynerchuk, Dan Schawbel, Michele Rosenthal, Linda Hardenstein, Jody Jelas, Pete Baldwin, Charles & Linda Musselwhite, Terri Anne Meyer, Mary Petto, Judi Young, Tracy Kennard, Kate Volman, Nick Romer, John Fallone, Infusionsoft, Rob Pene, Stefanie Gaxiola, Jim Bob Howard, Jim Everett, TJ McCue, Beny Schonfeld, Scott Stratten, Mitch Meyerson, Chris Boivin, Jane Dueber, John Dulworth and every one else that entered my life, supported me, hired me, made me laugh and stayed along for the ride.
